Another great day at the beach.
John and I went for a walk on the beach early ~ it was cooler ~ then we just sat on the beach.
Around 11:15 we went for a long walk while the tide was low.
It is amazing to see the local people working each day ~ the men go out fishing ~
and while the tide is low, the women and children catch octopus, crabs and we're not sure what else ~
Even the little ones help ~
We had fun watching these guys ~
Then Dana went down to talk to them ~ they were very surprised to here Swahili come out of her mouth ~
They were looking for shells for their mother ~ Dana helped ~
Tradition ~
Always working on the boats ~ dhow ~ wooden boats used on the Indian Ocean characterized by their triangular sail ~
This is actually a restaurant for one of the exclusive hotels around the
point ~
It is very different around the point ~ much more rocky
The dhow boats ~
These women caught octopus and were beating them with a stick ~ others further back were slapping them on the rocks ~ a way of tenderizing ~ they're pretty good with a stick!
Carrying their catch home ~
As the tide comes in ~ the men go out fishing again ~
Tide's coming in ~ time for a swim ~ I didn't know I could actually find the kind of water I like ~ bath water ~ this water is actually HOT. You have to swim out a bit to find cooler water and that is only from the waist down ~ waist up is still warm!
We walked down the beach for a cold drink ~ all the locals want to talk to Dana ~
At high tide we swam again and were surprised at how much cooler the water was ~ it was deeper
but I actually enjoyed it so you know it was still warm ~
Almost sunset time ~
Flame Tree cottages for dinner ~ it's fun to just walk down the beach and pick where you want to eat ~ we didn't get far tonight ~ right next door ~
The setting was beautiful ~
The view spectacular ~
The company great ~
And the food delicious ~
